- You have opened an interesting question. As far as I am aware, "dissension" is the usual correct spelling in British and US dictionaries. "Dissention" does occur occasionally online (due to error), although not in dictionaries as far as I know. If you can find it in an American authoritative dictionary, such as Merriam-Webster, that would be enlightening. Of course, "dissention" may have occurred here and there before spelling was standardised in the 18th century. Thank you. Storye book (talk) 19:30, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
