Gehan Mendis

5x expanded by Joseph2302 (talk). Self-nominated at 18:29, 15 March 2016 (UTC).

  • Symbol question.svg According to DYK checker this article was at 5x on 13 March and nominated on 15th so it is new enough. It is long enough, written neutrally and I cannot find any evidence of copyright violations. There are plenty of citations (though references are mostly just links - I will tidy that up in a minute). Hook - I can't seem to find a reference for the original hook and I'm not keen on ALT1 as the reference is just a word-press site. Joseph2302 can you please point me to the right reference for the first hook you suggested? QPQ done. ツStacey (talk) 18:55, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Symbol confirmed.svg Thanks for adding the reference to that sentence - hook now G2G. I was editing the references but had an edit conflict with you so thought I'd leave you to it ツStacey (talk) 19:16, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Symbol redirect vote 4.svg Removed from Queue, discussion reopened. Hook is incorrect, as discussed at WT:DYK. Fram (talk) 10:17, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Symbol confirmed.svg I agreed that we should use original hook as this is the one we discussed and Joseph2302 provided a ref for. ツStacey (talk) 10:24, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

... that Gehan Mendis was part of the Lancashire cricket team who won the 1990 Benson & Hedges Cup and Natwest Trophy?

  • Agree, ALT0 should be used. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:03, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Symbol question.svg Hi, I came by to promote this (again), but I'm having trouble getting excited about this hook. Unless you know cricket (which I don't), it's not that hooky. Could you say something more interesting about the person himself? Yoninah (talk) 21:25, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Template:Ping With respect, it's a cricket article, so I think that asking "don't have a hook about cricket" seems an odd request. If you don't know/like cricket, then the article probably isn't going to interest you anyway, plus a hook like this actually encourages people to look at the topics.
  • The hook has also been approved (twice), and so I see no reason not to run it, as "I don't find it interesting" is purely subjective. Joseph2302 (talk) 21:44, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Symbol confirmed.svg Fair enough. Restoring tick based on Staceydolxx's review. Yoninah (talk) 21:46, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
