Jan van Beers (artist)

1891 Vanity Fair caricature

  • ... that Jan van Beers (caricatured) was largely unknown until the scandal of being accused of painting over a photograph brought him worldwide fame?
  • ALT1... that Jan van Beers was largely unknown until in 1881, three critics mistook his miniature hyperrealist style for painting over a photograph, and the resulting attention brought him worldwide fame?

  • Mostly good. Two bits that could use explicit citations (I've marked them) and then I think it's good to go. Phrasing of hook could possibly be improved, but is accurate and sourced. Once the[citation needed] tags are fixed, and, ideally, "scandal of being accused" be rewritten, it's good to go. Adam Cuerden (talk) 22:46, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Citations have been added, and I've added an ALT1 attempt at a revised hook. Edwardx (talk) 10:07, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Symbol confirmed.svg This article seems to me to now qualify for DYK in that it is new enough and long enough and sufficiently referenced. I prefer the original hook and it is properly cited. The image is in the public domain and I have added the word (caricatured) to the hook. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 20:37, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
