Margaret Cooper (Wren)

  • ... that a 1942 letter addressed to "the blonde Wren from Argentina on the platform at Bletchley station" led to marriage in 1945? Source: "After a brief encounter on a train platform in 1942, in which no names were exchanged, Margaret Cooper received a letter addressed to “the blonde Wren from Argentina on the platform at Bletchley Station”. Her would-be suitor had made a mental note of the insignia on her shoulder, as well as a reference she had made to her country of origin, and had assumed correctly that there would not be too many Argentinian-born Wrens based near Bletchley. For the next three years they kept up a long-distance correspondence. Then they got married." (and [1] the source, or cite it briefly without using citation templates)
    • ALT1:... that Margaret Cooper worked on bombes on Winston Churchill's orders? Source: "You are strongly encouraged to quote the source text supporting each hook" (and [link] the source, or cite it briefly without using citation templates)

** ALT2:... that Margaret Cooper was training to be a cook when Winston Churchill asked her to undertake unspecified secret war work?

  • Symbol confirmed.svg - Length, Date, Cite, QPQ, and Earwigs check. I'm approving the original and ALT1, ALT2 seems to be stretching the facts a tad to much for my taste as the letter appears to have been a general one asking for volunteers, not an individually addressed one.
