Patrick Mayrhofer
... that Paralympic silver-medal winning snowboarder Patrick Mayrhofer was the first person in the world to get a bionic prosthesis that is controlled by his neural signals? to his nerve impulses?Sources: MeinBezirk.at: "Mayrhofer erhielt daraufhin als erster Mensch weltweit eine bionische Handprothese. [As a result, Mayrhofer was the first person worldwide to receive a bionic hand prosthesis.]", Deutsche Welle: "Austrian scientists pioneer a bionic hand powered by neural signals. The first man to get one says...", BBC: "Last year, a 24-year-old Austrian named Patrick was the first patient in the world to choose to have his hand amputated, again by Professor Aszmann, and a bionic replacement fitted."- ALT1:... that silver-medal winning snowboarder Patrick Mayrhofer joined the Austrian Paralympic team after seeing their stall at a prosthetics trade show? Source: PyeongChang2018.com: "In 2012 he was at an exhibition about prosthetics where the Austrian Paralympic Committee had a booth. He talked to them and chose to pursue Para snowboard.", Ottobock: "Following rehabilitation, Mayrhofer visited a prosthetics trade show in 2012, where he came across a booth run by Austria’s para-sport team."

- Template:Reply Sorry about that; I'd completely forgotten that I still had the QPQ outstanding and hadn't spotted that you had replied. Thanks for having {{ping}}ed me to bring it to my attention — I'll take a look over the weekend and {{ping}} you back. PS: I've never seen that use of to make smaller middle-aligned text before. Nice effect! 😊- Template:Reply I've tweaked the wording there — the change of "neural signals" to "nerve impulses" was me trying to simplify the wording of the hook. Is that better? (I'll go find one to QPQ now.) — OwenBlacker (talk; please {{ping}} me in replies) 20:34, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- Template:Reply Okay that works better. Delving into this a little further I'm not fully sure of the hook's claim. Examining the sources does not backup the claim "...first person in the world to get a bionic prosthesis that is controlled by his neural signals":
- Article: "first patient in the world to undergo elective amputation and receive a bionic prosthesis"
- MB: "first person worldwide to receive a bionic hand prosthesis"
- DW: "Europe's first bionic hand" & "...a bionic hand powered by neural signals. The first man to get one..."
- BBC: "Patrick was the first patient in the world to choose to have his hand amputated"
- I therefore suggest the following ALT hooks:
- ALT0a: ... that Paralympic silver-medal winning snowboarder Patrick Mayrhofer was the first person in the world to get a bionic hand prosthesis that is controlled by his neural signals?
- ALT0b: ... that Paralympic silver-medal winning snowboarder Patrick Mayrhofer was the first person in the world to get a bionic hand prosthesis after an elective amputation?
- ALT0c: ... that Paralympic silver-medal winning snowboarder Patrick Mayrhofer was the first person in the world to undergo elective amputation and get a bionic prosthesis?
We're going to need a third party to look over these now - may as well get that started while you work on the QPQ. violet/riga [talk] 21:35, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- Template:Reply Oh, good spot; thank you. I definitely prefer ALT0a of those 3, as the neural signals part is just freaking cool. It could be worth adding a link to Neural engineering to ALT0a; ALT0b and ALT0c could link to Elective surgery and Amputation. I've completed the QPQ now, here. Thanks again! — OwenBlacker (talk; please {{ping}} me in replies) 22:08, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
