Plot

After her brother is killed in a miscarriage of justice, aspiring inventor Claudette 'CJ' Walker uses her scientific mind to create two time machines, one for her, and the other for her friend Sebastian. As they use the machines to try and alter the day CJ's brother died, they come to learn the ultimatum of time travel: All Actions Have Consequences.[2]

Controversy

The movie is about black people having a rough time with the police in Brooklyn (NY) while bullying each other. To stop the white policemen from killing young black American, the "most brilliant" girl in school travels back in time to make changes. The director clearly wanted to make a movie about how badly black people are treated by the police in America, which is a subject too serious to be put in the hands of two kids who only travel back in time to throw slush at their ex boyfriends. [2]

See You Yesterday also draws on years of tension between black New Yorkers and the New York Police Department, and it places Calvin’s death in the context of Black Lives Matter protests. There are many time-travel movies question whether people can change history. In this movie, the idea becomes a broad metaphor for the rigged systems of social injustice.[3]

The movie has also a 'political' messages, like cops are evil and kill black people for sport. Even though this movie shows plenty of black-on-black crime, it's still made out to be solely because of racism. For these black travellers, there are only yesterdays to contend with; tomorrow is just out of reach.[4]
