Usage
This template generates a link for finding data about a single (print or online) publication via its International Standard Serial Number (ISSN). The ISSN number refers to the particular publication, not to a specific article within the publication. The ISSN is used to help establish the publication as a Wikipedia reliable source.
For a publication with the ISSN 1234-5678, use either {{ISSN|1234-5678}} or {{ISSN|12345678}}.
Example:
- Usage:
{{ISSN|0028-0836}} or {{ISSN|00280836}} - Links to: http://www.worldcat.org/search?fq=x0:jrnl&q=n2:0028-0836
- Renders as: ISSN 0028-0836 or ISSN 00280836 Parameter error in {{issn}}: Invalid ISSN.
Find ISSN of publication:
- Get ISSN by search with the publications name (on website of Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries)
Note:
ISSN number is always 8-digits long. Scroll down the Worldcat page to find the ISSN listing. Do not rely on the digits shown in the Worldcat URL for the particular publication; many are only 7-digits long and are invalid to use as the ISSN.
Articles with invalid ISSNs (as determined by the template) will be placed in Category:Articles with invalid ISSNs.
