As there were no official Indian sites found with population estimates or projections the following method was used: Census data was taken from the final 2011 Census data[1]. The population counts for years 1951-2011 were placed in Excel and projected using a 4th order polynomial which fits the data very nicely. The resulting population for 2021 is 1,373,953,400. The same formula was used for working out the size of population for years in the current decade, resulting in following values:
| Year | Projected Population |
Annual Growth |
Daily Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2012 | 1,228,362,017 | 1.45% | 48200 |
| 2013 | 1,245,751,792 | 1.42% | 47611 |
| 2014 | 1,262,901,016 | 1.38% | 46952 |
| 2015 | 1,279,783,727 | 1.34% | 46222 |
| 2016 | 1,296,373,359 | 1.30% | 45420 |
| 2017 | 1,312,642,746 | 1.25% | 44543 |
| 2018 | 1,328,564,117 | 1.21% | 43590 |
| 2019 | 1,344,109,100 | 1.17% | 42560 |
| 2020 | 1,359,248,720 | 1.13% | 41450 |
| 2021 | 1,373,953,400 | 1.08% | 40259 |
Notes:
- As the 2011 census was held on March 1st 2011, values above correspond to March 1 for each year. Daily Change is the average from previous year until March 1st.
- Sites like indiastat.com that were used previously as source for this page provide no explanation and actually their counter does not change for long periods.
