I Am Tired of Films Like Antebellum
I'm tired. I am tired of pop culture things. These things turn black people into underworld and actively portray the evils of this world of clothes. I am tired of myself being the main prism through which we perceive black culture through suffering. I am so hungry that the joy of black and the performance of black are like a meal, which makes me feel bored. I am tired of slavery movies that cannot understand the inner life of black women, even if their animals become a tool for filmmakers to investigate the terrorist acts of slavery. I'm tired of harsh descriptions and the exposure blacks get from milquetoast social messages.[1]
Antebellum isnt just bad - its vile to make a point about the evils of white supremacy, the film subjects its Black characters to unceasing brutality.
Violence and abuse continue to appear in the top 40 movies: a woman was killed for trying to escape; the kidnappers of Eden are strongly branded. A Confederate soldier sexually assaulted a enslaved woman in a particularly painful sequence. The terrible reality of slavery has become a stereotype of horror movies.[2]
Grossly Misguided 'Antebellum' Thinks Trauma Is Empowering for Some Stupid Reason
The reputation of the slave movie is a weak one and needs to be broken. It is important to remember the past. Entertainment plays an important role in shaping public memory. Movies are "painful".[3]
