Empowerment and Controversy

All African-American cast and crew is what unique about the show, a reassurance that the comedy portrays the Black experience[4]. There are some controversy surrounding how the show was perceived, particularly from it's African-American viewers. Such as how the show is a parade of generic misogyny, thanks to its Blaxpotation source material, and arguably the negative depictions of Black people in general. Given that audiences of Adult Swim are predominantly white male, some concern that they will simply laugh for the wrong reason. Despite the concern, the show creators realizes that the way the show addresses things like racism and violence may not be for everyone, but at least it will provoke and inspire people to voice their opinion[5].
