Both became cabinet ministers in their respective governments. Their father Robert Carson left Scotland at an early age, came west via the Oregon Trail came north for the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush, then wound up homesteading in 1863 on Pavilion Mountain in the wake of the gold rush, founding one of BC's earliest ranches.
