Genus-level cladogram of the Euryzygomatomyinae rodents, together with Carterodon and the Capromyidae, based on mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

The fossorial taxa Euryzygomatomys, Clyomys, and Carterodon constitute a polyphyletic assemblage (red bar). The root of the cladogram is also indicated: it can be seen as the most recent common ancestor of all taxa of the phylogenetic tree.
