The funcstats ("functionary statistics") template is used to store usage statistics on the checkuser tool. Statistics are published each calendar month by a functionary.

Checkuser logs are private, and can be viewed only by users with access to the tool. These statistics provide the Wikipedia community with information on who is using the tool and to what extent. Previously, the statistics were published in a hard-coded table; statistics could not be re-tabulated and statistics older than 6 months were accessible only via the page history.

Activity by checkusers is complex, and use of the tool is not the only manifestation of "activity". Evaluating community requests, and declining to use the tools in a given situation, is not easily 'logged' and therefore excluded from these statistics. The Arbitration Committee's procedure on checkuser and oversight inactivity defines in greater detail these activities and actions.

Structure

  • {{fst}} prints a sortable wikitable of the statistics per-user for the most recent available 6 months.
  • {{fst/YYYY-MM}} contains the tool use by each user in a given month.
    • {{fst/YYYY-MM|username}} outputs the number of actions taken in that month by that user.
    • For example, {{fst/2018-10|AGK}} would output AGK (talk⧼dot-separator⧽contribs)'s actions in October 2018 – ie 290 checks.
  • {{fst/table|username}} is used to print a table row of the last 6 month's statistics.
    • It would be helpful to have a bot create an empty page, once a month, to prevent redlinks. We could use a parserfunction to error check but it might be expensive. Bonus points if the bot prints an "empty" template.

Available months

The first logged use of the checkuser extension was in 2006. This template was created in 2018 and does not currently provide access to all statistics. Statistics are currently available for these full calendar months:
