Template:In popular culture
![]() | This article appears to contain trivial, minor, or unrelated references to popular culture. (July 2022) |
This template is used to indicate that an article with "In popular culture" lists may contain a long list of minor or unimportant references. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trivia sections and Wikipedia:Handling trivia for further guidance.
Do not use this template merely to indicate pop-cultural references - not all pop culture is minor or unimportant trivia.
The template may be placed at the top of a section, or at the top of the article if the issue affects the whole article. See Usage below.
Please note that use of this template can be controversial, so if the placement of it is reverted, do not restore it, as this is edit warring. Instead, per Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, start a discussion on the article's talk page, and either get a consensus for the use of the template, or agreement on which items in the section or article need to be removed so as not to require the use of the template at all.
Usage
This template should not be substituted.
Place {{In popular culture|date=July 2022}}
at the top of an article containing too many non-notable "in popular culture" entries.
If the issue pertains only to a particular section, add {{In popular culture|section|date=July 2022}}
to the top of it.
If the issue pertains only to a particular list, add {{In popular culture|list|date=July 2022}}
to the top of it.
If the issue pertains only to a particular template, add {{In popular culture|template|date=July 2022}}
to the top of it.
The |talk=
parameter is used to link to a particular talk page section; set |talk=
to the name of the section to cause a link to appear.
The |small=
parameter is used to reduce the template in size, as well as affect placement. Setting this to "left" will cause the template to reduce in size and appear on the left of the page.
This template also includes support for using the |date=
parameter. Adding this parameter sorts the article into subcategories of Category:Articles with trivia sections and out of the parent category, allowing the oldest problems to be identified and dealt with first. A bot will add this parameter if it is omitted. Be careful not to abbreviate the date, because then it will automatically add a redlinked category instead of the correct category.
This template sorts articles into Category:Articles with trivia sections from July 2022, a hidden category.
