Usage
This template is designed specifically for koryū schools of Japanese martial arts. For the purposes of using this infobox, a school is koryū if it was founded in Japan prior to March 28, 1876, the day on which Emperor Meiji issued the Haitō edict.[1]

Parameter descriptions
| school | The name of the school, correctly romanized. If kanji is included, please add "<br>" after the school's name, then the kanji in parentheses. |
| image | Preferably an image of the art being practiced. Neither brackets, nor the "image:" tag are necessary. |
| imagesize | Specify pixel width followed by "px", but the preference is to not use this parameter unless necessary. |
| imagecaption | A caption. Preferably a complete sentence ending with a period. |
| founder | The name and dates of birth and death of the founder, according to the format proscribed for names dates at WP:MOS-JP and WP:DATE, correctly romanized. |
| date founded | The date the school was founded. Be as exact as possible, but generally only a year will be known. |
| period founded | State the name of the historical period in which the school was founded, followed by the beginning and ending dates of the period in parentheses. |
| location | The location this school was founded, as that location was known at the time the school was founded. City, town or village, and province, are preferred. |
| headmaster | The name and dates of birth and death of the current headmaster, appropriately formatted. If none is known, state "Unknown". If there are multiple, state "various". |
| headquarters | The current headquarters of the school. If more than one, state "Multiple". City, etc..., and prefecture are preferred. |
| art1 | Up to ten fields for the "type" of martial art practiced, such as kenjutsu, iaijutsu, naginatajutsu etc... are provided. State the Japanese term here, using standard rules for foreign terms. |
| description1 | Define briefly what the martial art is; e.g., "sword art" (for kenjutsu), or "rope tying art" (for hojōjutsu). |
| art and description 2 - 10 | Same as above. |
| ancestors | Alphabetically list all of the schools that influenced the creation or practice of this school, please separate them by a single bullet separated by a space on each side, as follows: "school • school". Typically, these will be the schools in which the founder trained prior to founding the art. |
| assimilated | Some schools have assimilated others into themselves. When this has happened, list all of the assimilated schools here, separated by bullets. |
| descendants | Alphabetically list all of the schools whose creation or practice were influenced by this school, and separate them with bullets. |
